I wish I was around to see these things, I especially love the VC-10’s, and I love the Bristol Britannia!

Thanks Steve, a real “memoryfest”! Sadly I can remember most of those except the Stratocruiser and Connie but I can remember seeing Britannias of British Eagle and Monarch. And I remember very well my long suffering father
driving me to STN to see the first Britannia Airways 737-200 doing “circuits” just before entering service, we were also rewarded that day by a visit by a Saturn Airways DC8-61 the first time I had ever seen one for real. More anytime please!

yep Gatwick was great into the late 70’s/early 80’s as anything remotely interesting on a delivery flight used to route through there.. remember chasing down there late one night to see some Cuban Antanovs… made a change for a LHR spotter to see all the foreign charters.. CP Air + Capitol DC8’s, Evergreen C130’s, the regular Canadian AF C130/B707…etc etc etc those were the days, especially as I could get from LHR to LGW for 50p return on the greeline coach using one of their day rovers tickets – if you got up early enough you could ‘do’ LHR/LUTON/LGW/LHR on the bus in a day for 50p..

aaah..

Neil 😀 🙂 🙂

Many thanks for this thread, Steve, what memories it brings back! Especially when there were no restrictions for spotters at Heathrow and Gatwick, with Constellations and DC-7s by the dozen! BEA’s Comet 4s were the latest wonder in those days!
