Braniff B741 brings back a lot of memories of days down Gatwick.

N601BN “Big Orange”. (The only one to have a White Tail fin 😉 )

Sabena service was shared with BCAL and if my memory serves me right it was to ATL.

Nice photos. Takes me back to 1979 and my first time on a widebody, a National Airlines (just taken over by Pan Am) DC-10, LGW-Miami.

The first 3 are from about 1978, the Sabena is 1987

It was unusual to see a Sabena 747 in the UK.

I’m not so sure.

From what I remember, there used to be a regular (daily?) SN B747 flight that arrived at LGW at about 06:00.

Ah, a 707 and a Tri-Star in the same post! Its nice to see some older shots of aircraft not so common these days. What year are they from?

Great shots! The Delta tristar is best. The Comet behind is, is that RAF or one of the last commercial operators?

Sabena 747s used to appear at LGW on a daily basis at one time – if I remember correctly, it was a shared service with BCAL to somewhere like Houston.

Andy

Well I have to admit I did not know that. I was working in the Middle east in the 70s and 80s and regularly routed through Brussels, Paris and Amsterdam to see the long haul aircraft that rarely came to the UK. Seems I could have saved myself a trip through Brussels
