While I was thumbing through a pile of old magazines (years 1938-1953) searching for the Morotai Graveyard pictures (see scrapyard topic), I found lots and lots of old aviation pictures. I cannot scan them all of course, but I picked some nice 50’s photo’s so you can have a look at them too.
1. Translation of caption: ”In Seattle, America tests are carried out with a totally new kind of landing gear. The shock absorbers of this new landing gear are so strong and well adjusted that the heavy B-50 bomber can land on bumpy terrain without any danger. The Americans say: with this landing gear an aircraft carries its own runway”.
2. An early Goodyear blimp. The coach was adapted with a mooring mast on the roof.
3. A converted Lancaster bomber and a Meteor engaged in air to air refuelling: the Meteor made an endurance flight of 12 hours. The Meteor received fuel this way 10 times during the flight.
4. Publicity shot of the then new phenomenon of the helicopter; there are two Sikorsky S-51’s hovering in the background of this rather artistic shot. I don’t know the type of the three little red ones in the foreground.
5. Sandringham LN-IAU in the harbour of Bergen, Norway. It carried the name of ‘Bamske Bragar’.
