Just back from 3 weeks of rain and storm (and a broken car) in Spain. Included some pics I shot in Madrid. More to come later.

Nice pics, one question though. In the third pic why is the pilot wearing a red nose ? (was it red nose day ?)

Excuse my ignorance but, What plane is the super rare example?

The older ones will start to go starting next year. Will be a slow phase out. Next in line should be the upgraded ones ’round the end of the decade (could be earlier than that, depends on many things really) and the last to go will be the recce birds, I think.
Sorry for the OT guys… I’ll just bugger off now…

Kostas, just out of curiosity, how much longer are the Hellenic AF going to be operating them?
(Sorry for hijacking the thread…)

Thanks Der. It can be really rewarding sometimes 🙂
OK time for me to go and hide back in the shadows before the resident props & pistons guys see me 😀

Kostas, youre a lucky man getting to phix Phantoms for a living.
Those modern pointy jets just dont have the same magic about them.

“The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plane” 😉
Great shots Roger!

Another super rare example, one of only two still in existance.
Nice thing of Spanish airshows is that all flying is done very low, often less than 40 meters, and sometimes (in December at Sabadell) even lower. So photographis opertunities are sometimes awesome. W Roger

The difference between a Saeta and a Super Saeta is difficult to notice but, the Super Saeta has two air intakes, and the Saeta just one. BW Roger

@ Michael. So you are also here now:D If things are well I am already “back” with yahoo, but there might be a problem. Maybe you can check. As soon as possible I shall post some air to airs of the jets.
@ Damien & David
The silver one is a Saeta, and the camouflaged one is a Super Saeta. The Super Saeta, the only flying one in Europe, is based at Gerona.
I’ll have a go to post some more pics, as only half the ones I posted have emerged here. Don’t know what’s wrong.

Hey Roger, welcome back. Nice shots there. 🙂

Damien – It’s a Hispano HA-200 Saeta which was developed in the mid fifties and served as an advanced trainer. They also built a single seat version for ground attack. The power plants are a pair of Turbomeca Marbore turbojets.
