I’ve heard good things about the 300D, it uses the same image sensor as the 10D but it’s a much more affordable camera, basically it’s the first decent DSLR aimed at the sub-pro market and can be had in the UK with a standard lens for about £900 or less I gather.
If you can’t get to grips with photoshop, then try this free download www.irfanview.com I use it a lot for sharpening, correcting and cropping. It’s also good for resizing your files for posting on places like here. I’ve taken the liberty of sharpening up one of your pics to let you see the effect, hope you don’t mind ? 😀

andrew, the camera is awesome and very fast and easy to use.
just point, focus and shoot. i shot 5 in continuos burst with no problem at all.
i added a little USM kenneth, it becomes very apparent the issues you mentioned above.
without the USM it looks harsh.

i am not to sure how to use the USM on photoshop 7, can you give me some tips?
I use Photoshop Elements, but it should be the same. As I understand it, all digital photos, whether scanned or from a camera, need to be sharpened. The USM is said to be the best for this purpose. Clicking the USM function you find three controls: Strength or intensity (expressed in %), radius (pixel; the area in which pixels are compared with each other) and treshold (sets the brightness difference between two pixels which triggers the sharpening function). You’ll have to experiment a bit, but try 100%/5 (radius)/10 (threshold). Be careful not to overdo it (shows up as hard contrast, halo effects and jagged lines).

Hey Monster, how are you finding that Camera? Its the one I plan to get next year.
Cheers for any info you can give me on it. 🙂

using a canon EOS 300D and 100-300mm canon USM lens.
kenneth, i am not to sure how to use the USM on photoshop 7, can you give me some tips?
thanks guys, no competition, just plane crazy to stand in the 35C sun.
the OJO intersection was a positioning flight back east and was empty, OJE to singapore was intersection also with very strong head winds, she had room to spare when it rotated.

Great pictures! A tad of Unsharp Mask would render them even better, particularly the close-ups.

Intersection departures with 744s? Business must be bad!
