Went over to the north of Italy last week. Here are some shots for your perusal. These were shot with the Kodak P850 which isn’t the best in the world. Zooming is slow & sluggish and it sometimes doesn’t handle bright sunny subjects. My main shots are on slides though, so it’s slide shots first then this Kodak thing if there is time. Still to have the slides processed.
First a couple from Verona Villafranca with Air Italy 737-700 and one of the new Air Dolomiti EMB190s

Two Mad Dogs of Meridiana and a question. Can anyone tell me what the score is with the different shaped tail cones ? They are both labelled as MD82s but have different shaped tails.

At Verona’s small airfield of Boscomantico the parachute club use this Pilatus PC6 for chucking themselves out of.

And now to Malpensa. This Cargo Italia scheme is naff for photographing. The FONT, I mean. I have seen shots and thought they were just badly washed out but in fact that IS the font. Not the one I would have used.

Some big fellows heading for a 35R departure.

This Air China is an example of the poor Kodak P850’s performance at times. Look how washed out the writing is.

You can upload 1024 and even larger at photobucket.
Right under the big upload button it says “more options”, click this and you can set the size the images are (re)sized to. I guess you are ticked to the 15″ setting.
I didn’t tick any option. Maybe it was at this setting as default ? Well, I’ll look for that resize option next time. Thanks.

Nice bunch of shots, although it appears the colours fade on the right hand side of some of the photos?
Yeah, I saw that in some shots. Also noticed in some there were areas where the colour hadn’t taken properly – like noticeable fading on the tail where I know it should all be one colour. Could be that the camera is on the way out. Oh well, it’s not my main one anyway. Main one isn’t digi.

looks like you had some nice weather to shoot.

I have manually resized the pics to 800 wide. Photobucket claims that you can get 1024 x 768 on the free account but it is LYING as it resized them too 800 on its own terms which are probably bad compression and reduced quality.

Nice shots…those different tail cones have me perplexed as well
Apparently, the later (flatter-looking) ‘screwdriver’-type of tail cone gives a fuel consumption benefit of around 1% over the previous ‘pointy’ version.

I will muck around and maybe put the shots on a different hosting service, maybe flickr, then edit the post with the new links. See what happens. All this in between working of course (it really gets in the way at times 🙂 )

Cheers for that Dave. The Villafranca shots were taken through slightly tinted glass but all the others were outside.

I don’t know what Photobucket does with your pictures but it looks as though your white balance setting is incorrect. The P850 has, I believe, three preset white balance settings – looks like you have to live with your 5.1 megapixels though.
I put a couple of your ‘low-res’ images into Photoshop CS4 and adjusted the contrast to +15 and that gave a definite improvement, with a touch of Sharpen.
If your original ‘hi-res’ shots were OK then there must be a problem connected with the upload to the online store.
Enjoyed the subjects of your efforts though.
Best regards – Dave

Hmmm. I’m looking at the post and the images don’t look as good … they don’t look sharp enough. Is it my eyeballs, the diminished quality of photobucket these days or a bit of both ?
Oh, the P850 is just a 5 MP camera btw.
