Absolutely, I do that a lot. For the quick shot you saw, I had just taken off and there was not altitude to play with. All I could do is let him get close, then pull hard and hope he overshoots, which he did. Greedy bum then tried to pull round, but stalled one of his wings and augured into the ground…. muhahahahaha

A good tactic I learnt while playing IL2. When being attacked from the rear push the nose forward, to temporarily place your aircraft beneath the vision of the other pilot and then break left or right.
By the time the attacker has pushed forward and tried to see where you have gone you are already pulling behind him either for an escape or go into the attack.
