Luckily neither of us could fit in that turret. James is way too tall and I’m shorter but too round. The crew who manned those positions must have been small and slim.

Oh, I fit alright. Despite the size of the turret, there’s no more room in it than the Boulton Paul Defiant’s turret as regards getting in, but it’s a goldfish bowl from outside.

As an idea of size there is a Webley pistol holster hanging to the left of the turret.

You’d be red and swollen in no time in that hothouse… 😉 It was still 40 degrees (in the shade) remember?

As James said it was hot that weekend, so hot that he had to divest himself of the tweed that he is renowed for wearing. (see second shot below). I ended up with serious sunburn behind the knees from the sunlight reflecting off the concrete, but my legs are 1/2 the lenght of James’s.

I had the privilege of meeting James on Sunday and thanks to his generosity was allowed to inspect the Hudson interior with him during the after show “get up close and meet the pilots” half hour. Thanks again James, that really made my day.

Hi Wardie, It was good to meet you also. Clearly the tweed socks were a giveaway. 😀

It’s lucky my legs are that length or they wouldn’t reach the ground.

As regards getting a look in the Hudson, I was also keen, and many thanks should go to Temora’s team, and particularly Gordon Glynn and Doug Hamilton the Hudson crew for letting us in. No-one wanted to turn into a tomato by entering the turret though!

A great weekend of flying. Good stuff.

any more of the black Cat?

I have a few. There’s already a thread on the Cat which I’ll post into in a few days. If not start a new thread. I just posted some Tiger Moths so don’t want to flood the forums with Aussie birds. You guys should just sweat it out 🙂

Very nice, Glenn.

I particularly like the shot of the Boomerang almost on the ground 🙂

Some of my photos.

1. My attempt at emulating Glens Boomerang shot.
2. JDK in his glory.
3. Hudson Cockpit
4. A Hudson shot from the Nov flying weekend. (have not finished the latest).

A sight you can only see in Australia – the blue sky and 40 degrees.

It was ‘ot.

Oh, the formation’s quite unique too.

A common fighter, but a rare marque, a rare fighter and a unique flier.

(Matt Denning’s CAC Boomerang, the Temora Museum’s Spitfire VIII, and the world’s only flying Lockheed Hudson, also Temora owned and based.)

More seriously, considering the number of nations that used the Hudson, how important it was, how many records (firsts etc.) it’s a poor show that there’s only a few preserved, most of them unrepresentative or stored (or indeed, outside in harsh weather) and only one flier. Don’t turn up at the beginning of a war, there’s scant thanks – arrive at the end, that’s where the tea and medals are…

Well thanks john but I have snapped a few times recently and my nice guy status has probably suffered a few head blows.

But I should be over it now and will try to concentrate on being a nice guy again 🙂

Dave, yes the Hudson did fly that day. In formation with the Spitfire and Boomerang.

Oh and yes I believe the Harvard is an ex NZ one.

Ollie, you sure you don’t mean the THIRD frame.

Thats a CAC Boomerang.

The 4th Frame is a Spit but I know I don’t need to tell you that 😉

Thank you, i dont know what was going on last night, i could not type or count.

Lovely photos Glenn. Thanks for sharing them here.

Did the Hudson fly that day?

Also, that Harvard in erico’s photo is beautiful. Is it perchance one of many the ex-RNZAF Harvards in Australia?

Ahh once again I have spoilt someones shot. Surprisingly enough, I experienced no Rotor wash until the squirrel had gone past me.

Tyabb. I’ll be there on the day before. The Airshow day, probably not.

Erico, Are you Eric ?

sure am!
Not my photos but heres what we got upto this past weekend.
