Some very sad news…..

Just read in the latest Airforces magazine that the “last”? surviving member of the Andy Mynarski crew passed away recently. W/op James “Jim” Kelly.

For those who dont know, the Lancaster FM213 in Hamilton Ontario, canadas only flying Lancaster is dedicated to the memory of Andy Mynarski.
It seems like only yesterday that I saw the whole crew together at the unveiling of the Lancaster in 1988!

memories

Guys.
the loss rate of veterans now is very high. Many museums over here ask former aircrew if they would like to record some of their stories at the museum. This is a fantastic idea and should be done at every museum. Some of the untold hero type stories are awe inspiring!

That sums-up the sadness of the early 21st Century.

Inevitably, WW2 will all too soon pass from memory into history. 🙁

Sad news indeed.

But at least the crew were all present to see the CWH Lancaster take to the air again, and presumably all of them have passed away knowing that the Lancaster will keep their memory alive.

Sad news, if ever there was a strong reminder needed for the CWH Lanc to be flying, then this is it.

Sad…

I suppose that when you were an old man even at the time, 1988 is suddenly a very long time ago. We must be losing guys at a rate of knots now; it can’t be long before none are left.

How many are dying, just someone’s grandad etc, that have never told their tales? 🙁
