Here are some of my photos of my favourite collection, the Alpine Fighter Collection from Wanaka.
First up is Sir Tim Wallis himself in the collection’s flagship Spitfire XVI TB863

And here is the Spit at Wigram in 1991 or 1992

Here is the ex-OFMC Avenger on its arrival to RNZAF Base Wigram in the hands of the late Mark Hanna. This was April 1993, the weekend before we repainted her into RNZAF colours

After the repanit of Plonky, this was the roll out
Here is an underside shot of the Avenger

Oops… was going to add some more photos but forgot… here they are.
Sea Fury, Hunter, a couple of I-16s, and a P-51 at speed.

Wow, that is some moody-looking sky in your second shot, Garry. Thanks
From memory there were a few spots of rain as we left but nothing seriously heavy (ie not worth putting on a jacket for), but you’d already have a jacket on because the wind was straight off the ice on the mountains and was quite cold.

Thanks for showing my Avenger and Tora Zero. Both located in Brizvegas at this time. The Zero has been sold to a local Briz guy who flies it reularly. Both aircraft will appear at the Avalon Air Show next month….

OK, now that I am able to upload pics… here we go again…
By: Arabella-Cox - 12th February 2005 at 09:48
The Photos didn’t upload… sorry.
First of all a correction, they are from Warbirds over Wanaka 2002, not 2004…
Hopefully it will work this time. BTW I am a crap photographer and this was my first time with a digital camera that I borrowed so 90% of the photos I took are of the tails of aircraft in flight due to the delay between pushing the button and the photo being captured…

Here is another shot I have found. I took this at Wigram in probably 1993. From memory the pilots were Keith Skilling (Corsair) and the late Tom Middleton (P40K), and on the tarmac are RNZAF and AFC pilot F/Lt Phil Murray in civvies, and RNZAF Museum F/Sgt Alan Woodley. This for some reason is one of my favoutite photos of those I’ve taken over the years, I guess because of the great memories attavhed.

I believe there is a wirraway in Australia….
Maybe Oscar Duck can fill us in on the Zero replica 🙂
