Some work in progress.

Here’s a few images of some of the projects I have underway at the moment. Nothing spectacular but it keeps me quiet. The stash continues to grow and is very eclectic in nature ranging from Great War subjects right through to the Typhoon of today and even includes Revell’s amazing London Bus. All I have to do now is live to be 136 and I might have a chance of building them all.

First up are an AAVP and a Challenger , both still a long way from completion.

Next up is a Grant tank, again, a long way from completion. This needs detail painting and a lot of weathering and a crudely painted pair of white stars, one on each side. It will represent the type as it may have appeared around the time of Kohima and Imphal.

I can appreciate the work that’s gone into those AFV’s, even though they aren’t my thing. And that mossie’s going to look cracking when its done!

What an impressive and, as you say, eclectic collection, Kev.:) I like the Crusader very much and that Mozzie is looking so good. I need to model large because ageing fingers are hopeless for small detail.

Carry on the good work and you only have another, what, 80 odd years to go!!

This is the venerable Airfix 1/32 scale Crusader.

Next might be considered a bit of an odd one. It’s based on a picture found in Missing Believed Killed by Stuart Haddaway. On the 2nd of November 1942, Flight Sergeant William Thomas Allen was flying a Hurricane of 238 Squadron in an attempt to intercept a Stuka raid. The Squadron was bounced by 109’s and Flight Sergeant Allen was shot down and killed. He was 24 years of age. His body was recovered by the Germans and buried with a propeller blade of his Hurricane acting as a grave marker. The body was later exhumed by the RAF’s MRES and reinterred at El Alamein War Cemetery. I suppose it’s a tribute to Flight Sergeant Allen, the MRES and to the Germans who so thoughtfully buried him. Eventually the sides of the plinth will carry a picture of the Cemetery, a close up of his grave today and the original one from the book and possibly, on the rear panel, a 1/144th scale Hurricane.
