Something for an aviation minded photographer to do-video!

My son had said I should ‘go digital’ years ago, but I didn’t get around to it until last year. Getting ‘back to my love of aviation photography’ was great and when I managed to talk a publisher into a ‘cockpit photo book’…I was away. Pity the publisher ‘went’ when the recession hit!
Still I had by now learnt than some of the digital stills cameras take amazing video…something I had to try and haven’t been able to stop doing since!
Yes your Nikon or Canon will probably take Hi-Def video that will make a Sony video camera go green with envy…it’s all to do with the ‘big sensor’.
So here’s my website:
http://www.focalplanes.co.uk
Only videos of ‘historical aviation’ …well with some of my 60’s Changi stills archive that you’ve seen here, thrown in when I feel like it.
Do have a look..as with the right bits, these DSLR’s are changing ‘video’, by making it much more like film (I mean like ‘movie’) with a much shallower depth of field and the wonderful quality ‘still’ lenses bring.
I’ve just edited a round-up of last Sunday’s Great Vintage Flying Weekend

The Great Vintage Flying Weekend at Kemble 2010 from David Taylor on Vimeo.

and of course ‘that Nimrod arrival’

Nimrod XV232 arrives at Coventry from David Taylor on Vimeo.

However there’s more on my website…and much more to come as I think ‘moving machines’ need the moving image!
(Switch to view ‘full-screen’ if your computer connection is fast enough to allow.)
Do check out the ‘taster clip’ in Russ Carpenter’s Lightning T5 cockpit as I’m still working on that with him.

David
“aviation videographer”….err I think I know what that means as I’m the guy with the heavy tripod… and the big hole in my wallet.

Thanks Baz. Sounds logical. Not much from Googling “Argus propeller” though.
Cheers

The prop fins (strakes) are a separate little ‘turbine’ for driving the pitch changing mechanism,it is probably an Argus Prop so if you google that you should get some answers.

Pilatus P2 in your “films”

Lovely pictures David. Good to see you launching into the 21st century, but I still think your Changi pictures are classics.
A question related to your “film” of the Pilatus P2. I recently posted on another forum some photos I took of one at the Geneva Classics show last year, and someone asked me about the odd shaped spinner. I did not know the answer and asked around. No response so far. Do you know what those strakes are for, or anyone else on the thread?
Thanks

Laurence
