Qantas are now charging people from $3300 return up to $6500 for family members to fly to Denpasar on mercy missions to find their missing relatives. A normal ticket never costs more than Between $800 and $1600 Return.
They claim that inssurence is the reason that they need to bump up the price, but the airlines inssurers know nothing about it.
An investigation is now under way by the Consumer industry to find out the wrong doings and bring justice for those who are being victimised (After they have already lost so much).
Qantas are refusing statements.

I will summon my Australian source on this matter, perhaps shed some light on the situation. Good job on policing this situation, Kev.

thankyou Kev, much appreciated, i am not here to degrade fellow members, If Qantas did this and i can be supported by some proof i will be the first to apologise about this matter, But to have someone question my dedication to being an Australian i find very offensive.I try to present what i have heard first hand and post a link to the relevant proof.
Well anyways i am back off to Dubai in 6 days and have to look after my daughter who is unwell at the moment.Once again thankyou Kev for your decent words ))

RE: Something to boil your blood!
OK. When this thread first started I was one of those who laid into QANTAS over their alleged indifference to the victims of the Bali bombings. Monster 500 has provided references to back up his claims that QANTAS were in fact doing everything they could. Ja, however, continually says ‘it was on the news.’ Ja, for those of us not in Australia can you please provide links for these news reports so that we can come to a more informed conclusion?
Why these discussions degenerate into a slanging match I can’t really understand. In message 15 Ja, you said…
“Monster, if you were a true Aussie, then your only dream would be to fly for QANTAS…”
What has that got to do with the discussion? But, following from that comment could we not ask you why, if you are such a ‘true Aussie’, your dream was to start your own airline and NOT get a job with QANTAS? I don’t see the relevance of questioning Monster’s allegiance to his country. Perhaps you would be better questioning the allegiance of your government who failed to heed warnings of increased danger in Indonesia and Bali, as did the British Government? (BBC News)
The truth, will, eventually, come out.
Monster, as for AndrewM the king of news, I shouldn’t take much notice as he will not provide evidence to back up his argument. This has happened in the past where he makes statements and then doesn’t back them up, ask Wombat about the Northern Ireland thread.
In conclusion, I think the evidence presented so far on this forum points to the fact that some of us, me included, were a bit hasty in our criticism of QANTAS response to Bali. Unless of course, someone can provide conclusive evidence to the contrary?
Regards,
kev35

RE: Something to boil your blood!
Ah Andrew M i have had more bad experiences on Airlines, than you have ever flown, but that does not make this incident necessarily true does it, I mean i am Perth for god sake where a vast number of the Bali Victims are from, yet we have not heard one thing about this price hike, if it is so true then someone produce the facts.

Qantas optimistic for this yr but unsure of Bali impact
Its schedule disrupted as planes diverted to Bali to ferry home Aussies
(PERTH) Qantas Airways Ltd warned yesterday that it was too early to assess the impact of the Bali bombing on its business but said it expected positive trends to continue for the rest of the financial year.
Qantas chairwoman Margaret Jackson said Qantas’ schedule had been disrupted as the airline diverted planes to Bali to ferry home Australians from the resort island.
‘It is too early to assess the longer term implications of this appalling event,’ she told the company’s annual general meeting in Perth.
‘Qantas will continue to do everything necessary to help people cope with the immediate impact.’
She said a Qantas customer services agent in Sydney Kathy Salvatori, the wife of former rugby league star Craig Salvatori, was missing since the attack and presumed to be dead.
Qantas chief executive Geoff Dixon said the first quarter to September has seen the continuation of the positive trends in both load and yield factor experienced by the company in the second half of fiscal 2001-2002.
Mr Dixon said that the company expects these trends will continue for the remainder of the year to June 2003, barring unforeseen external events.
He said Qantas’ recent capital raising gave it greater financial depth to take advantage of emerging opportunities.
‘We have substantial lines of credit in the event of a prolonged downturn. We have a sophisticated fuel hedging programme to provide some cost stability in times of crisis,’ he said.
Ms Jackson said the company’s new Asian low-cost carrier Australian Airlines was on track to launch in about two weeks and had been well supported in terms of bookings.
‘The first month of operations are nearly booked out,’ she said.
She said talks with Air New Zealand are continuing about a possible strategic alliance although no agreement has been reached ‘and any agreement would be conditional on a number of approvals’.
Qantas shares have risen eight Australian cents since the Bali bombing, closing yesterday down one cent at A$3.75. – AFP

RE: Something to boil your blood!
Qantas stocks fell mainly due to the Bali bombing, As Qantas and the subsiduary Qantas Holidays are heavily invested in Bali. That would have sent jitters around the market for sure.

RE: Something to boil your blood!
who are you to question me and my trueness and alegence to the Australian flag, My first break came with Qantas so before you question me on that make sure you have all the facts, I was not taking a dig at you as you have done at me, I was just pointing out some facts about what QANTAS had done for the people in BAli, I dont know what news your listening too, But i am in a major Australian Capital which has played host to the last Qantas GM and we still have not heard about these price hikes, It would be fair to say or assume that we would have by now for sure, I read the paper, watch the news and still not heard a thing on this,Yet you are the only Australian who is saying this on the forum, Maybe your not the true Aussie, If all you can do is bash without supplying the facts, Maybe a case of sour grapes.I support Qantas as often as possible, in monetary terms, by flying them above any other airline.

RE: Something to boil your blood!
Ok I’m going to say one last thing and be done with it, cause I’ve had the worst week ever.
Monster, if you were a true Aussie, then your only dream would be to fly for Qantas, not preaching them here to we chosen few who know better. Besides, Qantas have now admitted to it and are making retrubutions to those who they tried to scam, that to was on the news. After the week on Qanta’s stocks and how far they fell, do you really think that they’d stay silent for long? Investors have pulled their money out due to more sketchy reports about wrong doings from QAL.
QAL are on a down turn now and with any luck those responcible will be ousted and we’ll have our faith restored in this once proud airline. I tell you, Smithy would be turning in his grave if he knew this smeg was going on.
Monster, we know how much you love your job, please, don’t try and tell us it’s all good when we know first hand about the politics of the airline industry, it won’t wash mate.
And it does seem like you are trying to dig at me, for what reason I know not, but anyway. Just as I said, I saw it on the news, thus I reported it on the boards.
