I would be more than happy to keep an original complete but grounded untouched warbird in a nice private location. I dont think they need to fly, they just need to be preserved. If anyone wants to come and see it, they can ask and are welcome.
‘Barn find’ patina is the only way kids will ever really be able to physically associate/date an aircraft to a story they learn in school of a bygone age. If you restore every bit of age out of every aircraft you are losing something very tangible. If it looks and smells old it is old, otherwise its just playstation 3 fodder.
Im off to fill in my lottery heritage fund application for the ‘Virgin Rose’ Mary Rose restoration project to sea worthy.
