Something wrong with Airbus???

on my game ‘Airline’ i leased a few planes and me being me i lookes at the runway lengths.
B757 takes up approx. 1,740m to stop from landing and the
A320 takes up approx. 1,955m to stop!

The B747-400 takes approx. 2,950m and
The A340-500 takes approx. 3,100m.

why do the Airbus planes seem to take longer to stop do they just have not as good brakes as Boeing

I have the A320 FCOM at work, I’ll see if I can get the figures for you tomorrow…

Jeanske_SN, I’m sorry I was unable to find take-off distance info in the A320 FCOM, I’ll keep on looking when I have some more time. 🙂

Whatever the game says, the A320/A330/A340 have very good wheelbrakes and can be stopped on short runways without even using reversers. Maximum braking alone is even more powerful than using max reverser on the A340, or at least so they say. The brakes will need an extended cooling period afterwards, but it is fully possible.

The QRH (Quick Reference Handbook) included for the Air 2000 A320 states the following landing distances without autobrake:

Configuration: FULL (Flaps 4)
Airfield at 0ft AMSL

The actual landing distance is the distance to come to a complete stop from a point 50 ft above the landing surface. No margin is included in this distance.

46 tons – dry rwy: 630 m, wet rwy 890 m
54 tons – dry: 720 m, wet 1010 m
62 tons – dry 830 m, wet 1130 m
66 tons – dry 900 m, wet 1200 m
74 tons – dry 1050 m, wet 1300 m

As can be seen, those numbers differ considerably from those in the game. To get the landing distance the game says, you have to weigh 78 tons and land on a wet runway with 6.3mm (1/4 in) water – 1910 m, and it’s still 45 m short!

There isa diference between Landing Run and Take Off run. Airline Owner, remember that an aircraft that lands somewhere also has to take off from there (usually). It’s therefore not the landing run, but the needed length for both operations! I think the 757 needs more than 1740 meters for taking off. That about the a320 is correcT.

I don’t think that game is entirely accurate.
