Hi all,
you can find this picture on the Wikipedia account for the Brasilian Naval Air Force in Portugese language:
https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avia%C3%A7%C3%A3o_Naval_Brasileira
Well, first of all, the scene may play 10 years later than given, because the Savoia S.55 did not fly already in 1924. The easy things in the picture I can identify myself. You see the S.55 in the center. Left, there are two Martin PM flying boats. On the beach, there is a group of Vought V-66 lined up. The ones following them probably are De Havilland DH 60.
But what succeeds these farther to the right? A big landplane in biplane configuration. It makes me think of a Farman but this firm preferred a different style of tailfin. Data about the Brasilian Naval Air Force of that time, which I have read, seem not to mention a plane like this.
I don’t get the clue what this aircraft is. Do you? If so, please tell us!
Thank you, and regards,
RT

I’m not sure what type is behind the LeO 253, RT. Possibly Breguet XIX but that is only a guess.

Hi MM,
yes, your solution makes sense. But what does not make much is that the Brazilian Army Air Force sends aircraft to an exhibition of the Naval Air Force. Although, it is/was their business, not ours.
I tried to find a good picture of the LeO 253, but that proved unsuccessfull. This website:
https://www.passionair1940.fr/Aeronavale-1939-40/Aeronavale/Appareils/H…
contains one at all, but it is of low quality. It shows the LeO 253 had a solid nose.
You might well be right about the Avro 504s. If you already know which aircraft stand behind the LeO 253, you may tell us either.
Thank you, and best regards,
RT

Hi RT,
I think the large bomber aircraft is a Liore et Olivier LeO 253 operated by the Brazilian Army Air Force. I have read that 3 were purchased in 1930 which would make the photo later than 1924 as you suspected. I don’t think the biplanes in front of them are DH60s – they look more like Avro 504s to me?
