Song lyrics

Relating to my thread on wanting to build/fly an SE5a on the GA forum, I was wondering if anyone knew either the name of the song, or the words to it, from the film Aces High??

Part of the lyrics go something like:

“Take the cylinders out of my kidneys
The connecting rod out of my brain
From the small of my back take the crankshaft
And assemble the engine again.”

I’m sure it’s been in other war/flying movies, but the only one I can think of is the 1938 version of The Dawn Patrol, however something tells me it’s not that song!!

(Might also be a good excuse to post more SE5a/WW1 aircraft photos! :D)

Thanks John, I think you’re probably right.

The song in The Dawn Patrol obviously isn’t the same, for the last line goes something like:

“Hoorah for the next man who dies!”

Haven’t watched that one in ages, either!!

Is it not the “Airman’s Lament”? Sung to the tune of “Bring back my Bonny” if memory serves correctly. The full lyrics (I seem to recall that the song covers the whole aeroplane) are reproduced in many WW1 RFC histories. I’ll check the library when I get home.
