That last pic makes the plane seem pretty short?
How long before these big jets get dirty? 😉 They’re going to look pretty mucky with all that surface area!

The article simply points to the fact that the 747-8 is not cancelled and that it’s on target for it’s first flight later this year
I talked about the B747-8I, the passenger variant, which
On top of that put the fact that the most likely additional customers (Japanese airlines) are currently virtually bankrupt.
At the moment Boeing is doing a complete program for 105 orders, less than 25 of them for the passenger version, which will require huge additional design and certification effort on top of the freighter. Facing the challenge of cash shortfall in 2010 and huge additional costs in the future for B787-9 development and second production line, I see a big stop sign coming ahead of the -8I.

The A380-700 is basically dead. If the B747-8I is canceled .

Not quite. Airbus officially plans A380-700, too. However, there has not been much recent airline interest.
The A380-700 is basically dead. If the B747-8I is canceled Airbus may think again about it, but currently I don’t see many airlines keen on that aircraft, and consequently Airbus will not pursue that variant. Remember the glamorous success of the B747SP, and especially its fugly appearance.

pretty sure that these are still the smallest variant they intend to make arent they?

It does seem rarther short when you see one for real, I must admit to having been a little underwhelmed by the A380 when I first saw it at Paris 2005. That said it’s still a mighty beast and the wings are an amazing structure. Yes it’s going to get rarther dirty quite quickly, but in fairness it’ll fit in just nicely with the rest of the AF fleet…:diablo:
