Sopwith Tabloid replica handed over to Brooklands

[ATTACH=CONFIG]223344[/ATTACH]A small team of volunteers at Brooklands Museum in Surrey built a near-airworthy standard Sopwith Tabloid seaplane, financially assisted by the Kingston Aviation Heritage and the son of the late Tommy Sopwith. The plan, I believe, was for the aircraft to be displayed in a shopping mall in Kingston-on-Thames where Sopwith first set up an aviation factory, later to become Hawker and the source of many famous aircraft such as the Camel, Hurricane and Harrier. The display plan in Kingston did not materialise so the airframe was donated to the museum where it will now be displayed in the ‘Wellington’ Hangar, along with a two-seat Harrier and a rebuilt original Hurricane

The Tabloid replica was formally handed over to Brooklands on 27 November will appear only partially covered so visitors will be able to view its construction system and the quality of the build. Steve Green & Ken Gillett were the prime members of the team that undertook the superb build.

So come along to the museum to see it and the other aircraft in the hangar and on site.
