What sounds do you associate with the manufacture and servicing of aircraft? For me, the whine of a windy drill and the clatter of a rivet gun make me tingle. Does anyone else have a sound that has a similar effect

The sound of a spanner falling onto concrete!

I can’t help thinking that swearing might figure in this somewhere!
I do enjoy the sound of hours and hours of VC-10 groundruns that are conducted not far from my office window.

Aaaah the sound of air tools does it for me, combined with the smell of dope, rubber, oil and tea.
Whooops, nearly into a different forum territory then.

The sound of a skylark hovering over the airfield on a warm summers day. Reminds me of West Malling in the days when the USN were based there. Not a single movement all day, just a Neptune sitting on the apron and the skylark chirping away!

Whilst aircraft towing…
CRUNCH !!………”BRAKES”
That used to be one of my favorite things! At the end of the day riding in the cockpit, hand on brake, while the aircraft got towed back to the hangar:D

The ticking of an engine as it cools down and the aroma of burning you get coming off it.

Military aviation
The Tannoy echoing across the station 0810 Monday morning
“This..is a test..of the public address system..from Air Traffic Control.. there will now be a test of the station crash alarm………………!!”
These tests were carried out by the guardroom, ATC and Operations and we would get to hear air raid sirens, all clear, crash alarms, etc. If you happened to be in a hangar when this was going on with all the doors open, it sounded fabulous.

The sound of the gyros spinning after the engine has been shut down!

The crack as a Chipmunks Gipsy Major springs to life!
I guess with my screen name there wouldn’t be many other sounds that I’d associate with aviation. 😀
