LONDON [MENL] — South Africa is preparing to complete development of a modernization package for Algeria’s helicopter fleet.
Industry sources said the South African effort is meant to upgrade the Mi-24 attack helicopter, a staple in Middle East air forces. The sources said production of the modernization package will begin within the next few weeks.
The upgrade has been developed by South Africa’s Advanced Technologies and Engineering. ATE has flight-tested its upgrade of the Mi-24 helicopter.
The modernization package, termed the Super Hind, includes advanced avionics and a weapons suite. The weapons suite is controlled by a mission computer developed by ATE.
