Just read the AFM.They mentioned the R-Darter and the Torgos. The Torgos is a stand off smart weapon with a range of 60 km.They also mention the Torgos.I remember reading somewhere that the Torgos, derived from the MUPSOW, has a range of 300 km.It is turbojet powered with a speed of Mach 0.9 and I think I saw a picture that showed stealth characteristics.Does the 300 km range classify this as a cruise missile under International agreement?I also see Denel posted record profits for their last financial audit.I’m impressed with the range of missiles/upgrades on offer.I know that a few years back , when sanctions were in place , there was work done on an indigenous fighter called the CAVA…Does anyone have any comments /info on these developements(old and new) and is there any more in the pipeline?

what shape is their defence industry now in the post-apartheid era ? have defence funding levels and armed forces training levels been kept up ? I read somewhere they are expecting submarines and the crews are being trained in germany & india presently…and their Meko ships look good.

So I wasn’t crazy when I was under the impression that these could actually take on and possibly beat the American systems!
I know about the Denel site as I am a regular visitor there, but thanks for the Kentron link.
Yes the A-Darter is being developed as an alternative to the ASRRAM. Very very impressive, we looked at it when we were replacing our AIM-9’s. Sadly the ASRAAM was selected, but the A-Darter was very very close.
Interesting, at the top of the Kentron page, there is a a UCAV firing an A-Darter, I wasn’t aware that the SAAF were looking at them, interesting design too!

Umkhonto was selected by the Finnish navy for its Vosby class corvettes I believe. I dont know which other missiles were offered though.

Pretty good, as Wanshan said, close links with Israel have resulted in some impressive modern weapons.

Fairly competitive in terms of both price and quality, I would say. The boycot during the apartheid years has forced SA to acquire and develop its own technologies and weapon systems, with much help from for example Israel. It now produces ATGWs (ZT3, Mokopa) that are comparable to TOW and Hellfire, good quality AAMs (U-Darter, R-Darter), SAMs (SAHV3 in IR and RF versions, and Umkhonto VL derivative), and the MUPSOW for precision strike.
