I don’t want to talk about politics here or what purpose it would serve. Suppose the decision has been made to build Ascencion sized AFB on South Georgia island.
Does anyone have any sort of idea about the following:
How long would it take to bring the materials there and build the whole base.
How much would it cost to build it, taking all this logistics into account.
How much would to operate the base, being in such harsh conditions where pretty much everything to sustain the base would have to be continuously shipped from the UK, probably even all food. I’m sure water could be found locally, though.
What would the cold and the winds do to the air operations? The temperature is said to be sub zero through most of the year, with december to march period going up to 10 deg celsius over day.
