Here’s a few highlights from the last few weeks at Southend:
G-EZBI was repainted at Southend and had a special William Shakespeare decal applied. Appropriately named ‘Romeo Alpha Juliet’!

The Swiss RJ100 blowing an engine at London City produced a couple of diverts:
Always nice to see British Airways at Southend!

There;s been no shortage of Air Astana aircraft – here’s P4-EAS arriving early on a misty morning:

There’s also been no shortage of ATR72s – including Aer Arann / Stobart Air’s newest delivery – which is photographed here operating its very first revenue flight:

Lufthansa was a rare visitor for Southend – with an A321 for maintenance. I was bemused by the contempt which the crew had for the whole airport – but they made a low approach to the ‘very short’ runway:

A couple of the scheduled traffic:

Flybe / Stobart Air / Aer Arann have announced that 2 ATR72s will be based at Southend operating a new European network under the Flybe brand from June. That should shortly be a nice addition!
A lovely Titan 737 – G-POWC undergoing engine runs prior to returning to service:

Yet another Aero Contractors of Nigeria 737 heading back home:

My highlight of the year now. UR-CKC an Antonov 74 parked on stand on a misty evening after operating a freight flight. A fantastic livery too!

And finally, another good movement. Ex. Kenya Airways E170 departing back to Exter after having been repainted into AeroMexico colours at Southend:

As always – I hope these are of interest!

SEN really gets an interesting mix for its size.

Nice pictures.
Since my other half packed up working in Rochford, I don’t get to the airport so much.
Often used to go in to the terminal cafe for a bacon roll after dropping her off at work at Rochford in the mornings.
Then sometimes calling in at the B-52 in the afternoon before picking her up.

Thanks for sharing! You should pop over to Le Bourget when we are there!
Thanks for your comment 27vet, and Le Bourget is a place I would like to visit! Equally, ATC Lasham at Southend is most experienced in accepting executive 727s and a few would welcome a visit of your aircraft!
Thanks Culpano, crispy, and barney for your comments too.
Barney: Unfortunately I don’t work airside – and all the photos were taken from public areas. Although a few of the old spots have been lost – the runweay extnesion ahs created some excellent spots. Many of the photos were taken from the 06 end of the runway which has good views from by the church and on the raised footpath on the other side. The Anotnov and the Air Astana photos were taken through the fence by Viscount House (as Alan said, by the old terminal).
Here’s a couple more photos from yesterday of the second 737 for Discovery Air going flying on a short airtest under its Nigerian registration. It is the former G-TOYK:

Great pics I lived near there a few years ago, popped in last year and found lots of barriers, yellow lines etc.
Where do you your pics from, all the old spots seemed to have disappeared.
Thanks,Barney.
No doubt an advantage when you work airside 🙂
You can use the Lancaster car park (near the Vulcan) for approaches to 24, or there are a couple of parking spaces
in the laybys, on the new road which goes next to 060, for approaches there.
Pictures of the apron outside the old terminal are easy enough, even through the chain link fence. You can normally
park there for a couple of minutes without any hassle.
Park anywhere near the new terminal, and they’ll be on your backs straight away.
