A very busy day today at London Southend Airport.
First up is a very tatty easyJet A319 about to be pulled over to Air Livery for a much needed repaint. This was in 2005 easyJet’s 100th aircraft!

As I had anticipated, the scheduled flight from Waterford was flown by Aer Lingus Regional ATR42 EI-CBK. Quite apt, since it was announced this week that Aer Lingus Regional will fly 2 times a day to Dublin from May 10th, operated by a based ATR42.

Now some more interesting movements, an Air Astana 757 taxiing out for a
VFR airtest conducted at 1500 feet in uncontrolled airspace!!! Quite an event!

It was back quite shortly afterwards, being much low than it should be! Now the extened runway is in use, the 24 threshold has been moved further into the runway, and this aircraft was low, even for the non-extened runway. I suspect the pilots hadn’t got the new charts, as they were surprised full ILS was available and were expecting to be towed off the runway, instead now being able to turn round at the end under there own power!

After around an hour, it finally departed back home to Almaty, just as the sun was thinking about coming out!

And to think that was it! No, after 30 minutes or so, TC-IZL arrived from Bournemouth wearing its new Atlas Jet livery. The sole Atlas Jet A320 at the moment.

And to make things even better, it parked on a stand outside the new terminal, where there was a considerable wait for steps to be attached!

All in all, one of the best days at Southend I’ve ever had!

Yes that’s the one. Thanks for the link to a great photo of it!

This was the livery which was worn on the ATR72-500s after they were delivered until they were repainted into Aer Lingus Regional colours. That was also a very smart livery, albeit very short lived.
Is this the livery you were thinking of

I haven’t got so many of the stored British Aerospace aircraft:
The new 146 arrivals there have been this year are 3 former Brussels Airlines example and I-CBLA. G-BTJG and G-TBIC have been scrapped this year.
There are at least 2 CS ATPs left, and 3 hs.748s.

Not my own, but these very recent ones may be of interest:

Thanks for the pics. Any chance of some pics of the stored 146’s/ATP’S/748’s please?
Ta.

Thanks for your comment Argonaut. Ease of travelling from Southend has been a big focus of the airport, with the ‘Simply Easier’ slogan being adopted. The new terminal is very small and compact, and should as hoped make travelling an ease!

Great photos, good to see Southend so busy, it is well placed to take a lot of London traffic. The larger airports LHR, LGW & STN have become a pain to travel to/from. I have always found Luton much more relaxed to fly from and I am sure Southend will be the same.

Thanks EGTC. I even got another Air Astana 757 on arrival this morning!

Great 🙂

Excellent little selection there. I bet Southend is great come the Olympics.
Thanks Culpano. I certainly hope the airport is very busy during the Olympics, it should be, as it must be the fastest to the Olympic park apart from London City.

I seem to rember once seeing an Arran 72 with a very nice livery, featuring circular designs, or am I thinking of a totally different airline.

Thanks MSR777 and Gooney Bird.
The Aer Lingus Regional Dublin services are great news, bringing a 4th based airliner to Southend.
There certainly have been quite a few Aer Arann liveries, however my favourite is the one which EI-BYO used to wear.

The Aer Lingus colours do look great however, certainly better than the white aircraft with titles which can be seen on EI-BYO and EI-CPT now.

Some very nice shots. A nice early ‘feather in the cap’ for SEN with Aer Lingus basing an ATR there.

Very good pics. I see you have broken with tradition as Aer Arran is normally the first! I still can’t make up my mind as to which colour scheme I prefer! I think I still prefer the original one!
