Southend Airport today 30.05.2004

Not up to Damiens standard, but I thought a few shots from the airport might be of interest.

Has anyone got any pictures of Miss Demeanour after she landed at Southend?

Cheers in advance

DOUGHNUT, entry was £5, open Sunday and Monday, no special pass needed, free open top bus tour of apron provided, the Vulcan unfortunately did not taxi the only movement it made was when local Air Cadets and others towed it for charity. I went to the first two seafront displays but found them claustrophobic (? spelling) the airport was better crowd wise but no full displays just flyby’s that apart personally I prefered the airport.

I went to Southend Airport about 10 years ago when it was a very small event. Most of the aircraft staged through there, and I remember the Sea Hawk doing a very low pass (about 30 feet) as there were so few people around. The Vulcan also did a taxi run. Unfortunately the event got bigger and not as enjoyable so I haven’t been for some years now. I always enjoyed being at the airport rather than at the display.

I have never been to the Southend Airshow as I assumed it to be a flying only event on the sea front. How long has Southend airport been doing an open day for the event ? What did it cost to visit the airport, was it open both Sunday and Monday, access look pretty good or did you have a special press pass ? Could be one to look at for next year. Did the VUlcan do an engine run, that would be worth the trip on its own.

Great pics LeHarve. Was a great show today, my first time of visiting it myself, and i throughly enjoyed myself, just gutted i didnt take the opertunity to go up in a helicopter. 🙁 ah well.

Anyone know why, everytime the utterly butterly lot came into Land the Fire engines always followed?

As noted/spoted in Damiens thread, the spit have a fuel leak – it too was accompanied by the fire crews upon its landing. Also one of the 2 R. Navy Lynx’s there today had a problem on its start up, smoke appearing from just below its rotors. And i heard that Miss Demeanour had a troubled landing?

That all aside, a great show… deffinately worth the fiver to enter the airport. 😀 To get blown away – litrally – by the T-33 was great. 😀
