Southend on Sea

I got an unexpected flight to Southend on Sea this weekend, taking one of our aircraft there for maintainance. I will be idle saturday and most of sunday.

Are there any places worth the visit (in the aeronautical sense) in the vicinity?

Regards,
Galdri

If you do decide to go into London, the Science Museum at South Kensington (easy access on Piccadily Line) and the Imperial War Museum at Lambeth (5 minutes walk from Waterloo station) are both well worth a visit.
This Sunday is also Remembrance Day,with the traditional ceremony and mass marchpast at the Cenotaph in Whitehall and the guns firing in Hyde Park, which is quite a spectacle.Perhaps the Cenotaph then onto the IWM?
Good luck with the bag of chips…;)

It’s never worked for me. Perhaps I should buy a Capri and call myself Wayne?

Go into Southend and buy a bag of chips for the first girl you see. You will then be able to enjoy various aerobatics all weekend.

Vulcan XL426 is based at Southend, and I believe one of the HeavyLift Belfasts is still there.

Other than that, the nearest I can think of is North Weald, but that’s a good 40 miles away along the A127 / M25 / M11.

Hop on a train into London, tube to Liverpool Street, train to Cambridge; there’s then a bus service to Duxford.

Again using trains; Train into London, then tube to Colindale station, gets you to the RAF Museum at Hendon.

They’re the main ones that I can think of for now.
