Some grand photos in today’s ‘Edinburgh Evening News’ newspaper(Saturday 19th July) of the South Gyle Lightning being raised on its plinth. Also shot of 1956 Canberra bomber which visited BAE’s predecessor-Ferranti’s -factory that year for radar adjustments.
Also the two wooden huts where the gunsights were made that flew in RAF fighters during WW2 in 1943.
Also good photo of Seafury that was being serviced at Ferranti’s airstrip. All can be accessed by clicking on http://www.scotsman,com
Click on ‘Evening News’ then features.
I know those two wooden huits well where the gunsights for RAF fighters were made in 1943.
They were still in use in 1970 as workers’ canteens and I used to nip in from nearby Telford college where I worked in 1970 and have some nosh ,being totally oblivious then of their military avaition connection although my Uncle, who worked in Ferrantis in 1943, used to tell me about the’ gyro gunsights’ he used to make there.

There is only a features link in the Scotsman part of the site.
Please advise as I would really like to see this story. If I cant get it any chance of a scan of the page.
