SPACE CADETS (Merged)

I don’t usually watch many reality TV shows, but did anyone else watch the first episode of Space Cadets (Chnl 4, 9pm) yesterday…?

It is brill…I can’t believe they didn’t choose me…I would have fallen for it convincingly – and been proud of it! 😀

Does anyone know what airfield it is that is used in the series, as they are only disclosing it as ‘a disused military base in Suffolk’. Answers on a postcard to… well, post them here if you think you know…

And if you didn’t watch last nights episode, I command you to watch it tonight…it is compulsive viewing and above all an excellent concept.

Regards,

Alot of opinion that all of them are actors; but where is the evidence? So far only 3 actors are in evidence.

Lets add another one to the actors list.

Just seen the blood donors advert. Gordon Ramsey in the football stadium. His ‘lifesaver’ is Ryan. The guy with the big hair. (Or his twin brother)

Do you think channel 4 are taking us for a ride ????

It is interesting that they say so far only 3 have shown they are actors. How many more of them are? All of them?

Plus the girlie in my earlier post – makes four.

Total and utter tripe from beginning to end.

If the participants have been genuinely “hoaxed”, then they deserve pity, not ridicule. On the other hand, if it is the viewers who are being hoaxed (which is what I think) then Channel 4 need to be slapped about.

I am not against a TV channel playing the odd trick on its viewers (they all have done so many times over the years) but this “trick” is so patently transparent that watching it KNOWING you are being fooled is a complete waste of valuable sock drawer organising time.

The word guillible has been used quite a bit but in the first episode the programme was at pains to point out this was a characteristic they wanted in the contestants – but they called it suggestibility (the test with the glass bowl of rubber eyeballs was interesting).
I was waiting to see how they were going to get over the lack of lack of gravity but everyone seemed to buy it.
We all know that an aircraft with “G-B—” on it is British but you ask someone down the pub…
I was interested to see the scrapyard (sorry props supplier) full of aircraft bits, missiles, engines, etc – would be a fascinating place to visit (nr. Colchester?).
I NEVER watch this type of programme but am making an exception and will be in front of my TV tonight at 9.

And on the comment from Moggy C..

I understand one of the ‘contestants’ ie. not one of the planted ‘actors’, is a ‘College Administrator’ called Keri Hasset?

Yeah, suppose so…but does it really make sense to do that? It could backfire in the process, if the viewing public are being hoaxed… 😮

And secondly, imo it is very unlike Channel 4 to put on a show like this isn’t it – its more of an ITV1 show I think, but I imagine that they could have it follow straight on from “I’m not such a celebrity anymore, get me out of here!” 😀 😀

And on the comment from Moggy C, why would Channel 4 go to the expense of trying to hoax the people that watch it…?

To get viewing figures.

What I found funny was the ATR flying for 4 hours in cicles over the north sea. sure they knew they where flying in cicles :p and the US navy F14 should they have a MIG not a F14 and CHANNEL 4 NEARLY BLEW IT Did anyone see the helicopter they travelled on at the beginning of last nights programe? It was a British registered chopper they use on Oil rigs.Them people must so thick :p :p

Yes, I noticed that as well…however, as it was stressed at the beginning of the programme on the first episode – the people chosen have no avaition/military or space knowledge…

Did anyone notice the tank that was featured, the bus had to wait for it move out of its path…was it a Russian tank? I certainly didn’t think so…but still, its all good fun…I was constantly shouting at my TV last night saying “YOU ARE NOT GOING INTO SPACE – ITS A HOAX!”… :p

Last night’s episode answered the time difference question (C4 confiscated all their watches).

I was amused to see the Abbot self propelled gun trundling about as well, and also note how the weightlessness question was got rid of!

These people are muppets (if they aren’t actors – I’m still sceptical about whether the whole thing is kosher).

Exactly my thoughts James. I know they weeded out the Space types but did they weed out people with Aviation hobby to some extent. It is a pretty easy thing to recognise a British Reg and to add insult to injury the side of the aircraft had “British International” or “British Helicopters” on the side of it too above the door.

Of course there will always be rumors that the people in it are actors or it is indeed a hoax but anyone can have the wool pulled over their eyes.

I think if they arnt actors, C4 will have a hard time when they “go into space” with no other astronauts and without a motion platform underneath the “simulator”! Maybe they will sedate them until in “orbit”!

Well I can’t seem them recognising a US Naval Aircraft can you? an aircraft is an aircraft to them they are not going to see any difference. As for them not noticing the English speaking pilots? well they may have assumed they were working for Channel 4? or just didn’t think anything of it becasue the pilots of the ATR were English also?

Maybe they are preoccupied with the fact that they think they are going into Space!?

Who knows 😉 Fantastic show anyway 😀

And the us naval aircraft photos on the wall behind the commanders desk. And surely they could have herd the radio talk in english when on the helicopter.

Sorry, just caught a quick glimpse of it (was on the computer at the time) and heard my dad saying ‘They must be gullable if they think a Bae 146 can take them all the way to Russia’ so took his word for it!

Wrong type of aircraft…?

Also the fact i don’t think a Bae 146 could go all the way to Russia (my dads words so don’t shoot the messenger!)

I think you will find it was an ATR42-300, not a BAe 146… 😉

Well, Nacton Road international airlort surely!

As I said in my last post…check the General Disscussion thread…you will find that it is being filmed at RAF Bentwaters! 😀

MODS…this thread needs to be closed, as it is pointless having two threads of the same topic, and also it is in my humble opinion that this has nothing to with commerical aviation – or do I stand to be corrected! If so, I apologise.
