Hi All,
First post so please be kind… I’ve long had an interest in WW2 aviation; I guess a lot of it was down to growing up in the late 60’s (when the war didn’t seem to be that long ago), having a Dinky toy Spitfire, Hurricane & ME109 & the Battle of Britain film. Some 40 years later, I still have the dinky toys a DVD of the film & over the last few years I’ve managed to buy a couple of RAF & Luftwaffe flying helmets & some other militaria to make a decent display to honour those who gave so much.
Would it be possible for some help? It’s been an ambition to own a WWII spade grip (just the grip, not the column). Originally (like many others I guess) I’d had grand ideas on a genuine no excuses Spitfire or Hurricane item, however as I’ve done quite a bit of reading on here over the last few weeks, it seems like genuine top notch ones for either of these planes are hard to find and very expensive.
It looks as if my budget is probably going to point me to a late AH2040 (non Dunlop Patent applied for marked) with at the castings for the Bowden cable guide on the rear & maybe a brake lever, which I guess is Harvard with the possibility of hurricane / whirlwind etc. It would also allow future fit of the leaver / catch.
Apart from eBay, does anyone have any thoughts on the market value at the moment for the different types (in good condition) & also if there are any good places to look for one?
Does anyone know of any good sites on the web that document all the different types fitted to the different British aircraft in WW2? Any “spade grips for dummies” advice would be greatly received.
Thanks……

Spade Grip
The Aerojumble at Shoreham Sussex next March would be a good starting point.
