In living memory, the only countries in Europe the UK has been at war with is Germany, and their part-time allies Italy, Romania, Hungary and so-on! If it is ‘the war’ why isn’t Germany penalised by all the countries that they occupied?

Was just answering a specific question Arthur…The song contest is kinda symbolic of the whole euro shambles…even the most ardent of euro supporters must now have a teensy weensy doubt that the EU is a workable thing…I am sure that the euro taxpayers are all delighted to pour it into the black hole for the benefit of those lucky enough to be on the gravy train 😉

I am not sure, either, what Eurovision has to do with a song contest. Neither am I able to fathom why anyone would want to endure it. Each to his own!

Personaly, I.M.H.O. Why do we bother to enter year in year out. We know what is thought of our Country by Europeans, God only knows how many times we have been at war with a number of them.
I have a hunch, and thats all it is, is because we have too many ties with America.
Could be wrong, and frequently am, but there must be some reason.Like why do the Europeans get all the huge contracts that ONCE we did?.

I haven’t watched the contest for years (can’t bear it) but if the voting system hasn’t changed in the last few years it is anything but completely democratic!

I didn’t see the voting last night but I’d bet that Estonia voted Russia in top place…..which is strange for a country that was forcibly occupied by Russia for about fifty years!

But then Estonians (all 1,350,000 of them) can’t vote for Estonia but the 25% of the population that are ethnic Russians can vote for Russia…

…does that make the Russian entry the best song? :rolleyes:

I suspect you are right Edgar, in which case we got what we deserved. I have a suspicion though that if the winning song was the British entry it still wouldn’t have won.

Actually, I feel rather sorry for Mr. Dorsey, since I think this year’s entry was an act of cynicism by the U.K. Year, after year, the entries are trawled as being (and by) the best that we can offer, and humiliation follows, so, this year, it was a case of sending in a dud song, with a performer past his best, and telling the voters, “Do your worst, we’re past caring.” It worked, but nobody’s bothered; I’m glad I watched something else.

I’m not anti-European, I am pro-democracy.

They are all bad, just some are worse than others.

There seems little point in moaning about coming second from last when it was a poor entry.
There is no doubt that the best entry won.
Having said that, I was disappointed that the Danish and German entries didn’t do better – they were good songs well performed. Apparently the German entry was written by Jamie Cullum.
Political voting didn’t affect the winner but may have affected those finishing last.

UK finishes second …..
