Just reading the last few pages of an excellent book, ‘Air Ambulance’ by Iain Hutchinson, the story of six decades of the Scottish Air Ambulance Service, forget the bush pilots of Alaska, sheep herders in Oz or missionaries in New Guinea, these pilots were THE MEN. No navigation aids, bad weather, no airfields, these men flew using local knowledge and a lot of luck.
One of the aircraft used, the Spartan Cruiser of Scottish Airways jumped out of a photo with it’s big wheel pants and said, I am ugly or words to that effect and I decided to investigate a little further.

I was delighted to learn that the aircraft was designed by the Edgar Percival.
