I know Spencer is often quoted as saying if you buy a Spitfire, you can paint it any colour you like, but what about his Hawker Hunter?
I’ve seen various posts on a certain social media site saying that they were his “house colours” (painted on the Spitfire, Sea Fury, Hunter and Baron), but also that he wasn’t allowed to give the Hunter a military scheme because the type was still in service in certain parts of the world.
Anyone care to clear this up? I couldn’t find a definitive answer on the forum.

That is what I was told when I asked the same thing years ago. Can’t remember if his son Chris is on here but he is on FB. The RAF were not happy with him getting the Hunter & he decided on the red scheme for all 3 after the refusal for the Hunter scheme. It was also made difficult to get the parts to keep the ejection seat live too.
