I am very excited about this project. If anybody reading knows how one might get a part as an extra in this, please get in touch! Struggling to find any info right now.

Not James Cameron, and not Memphis Belle.
The best aerial CGI I’ve yet seen has to be from Dark Blue World and, strangely, King Kong‘s climax atop the Empire State Building.
That’s not true, the best CGI you’ve seen you don’t know you’ve even seen it. Some shots in Pearl Harbor are very good indeed, but as soon as the cameras and planes start doing nutty stuff is when it all falls apart. That’s not the fault of the tools but the direction.

They cant do any worse than James Camerons’ ‘Red Tails’, have you seen the CGI in that, and footage stolen from ‘Memphis Belle’ I think. If they can get this series in line with the quality of Band Of Brothers and not Pacific I wont complain! Cant wait.

True but I’d rather see a fine documentary with high production value at a fraction of the cost.

…if an incorrect mark gets in there according to timeline, I would still be appreciative and not nit pick.
Finally, an intelligent sentiment on this subject.
Why do we like historic aviation?
For some it’s simply about the hardware.
For others (and I’m tempted to say for the more mature of us), it’s about remembering the men and their sacrifices.
Having a film made that will tell their stories to a new and wider audience should be welcomed by all…even if there is the odd nit to be picked by anoraks.

I have accepted CGI is a necessity nowadays…but there is still a difference between good CGI and bad CGI. I reluctantly accept we will not see any aerial combat sequences in anything other than CGI.
Still, I hope they are able to have a good number of real planes at least on the ground, maybe taxiing and some nice gratuitous flybys. And considering the era we are in and there are not that many original or restored warbirds left…if an incorrect mark gets in there according to timeline, I would still be appreciative and not nit pick.

That would be amazing but knowing how the yanks love cgi & their X-Wing style flying characteristics I think they’ll go with that.

HHmmmm. I smell Mustangs, and plenty of them. Could be a shot in the arm for Sally B , and a chance to revive the mothballed French Fortress
I hope they are not planning much CGI.
Agreed 100% ,lets hope some of the money can keep and get other planes back in the air.

”It’s reportedly going to be the most expensive production in the history of television costing 500 million dollars. It’s based on a book written by Don Miller who did research at the National Museum of the Mighty 8th Air Force. Much of the filming will take place in Germany and England ”
