Spielberg – P51s & Red Arrows

Steven Spielberg claims that he used “Red Arrows” pilots to fly Mustangs during the filming of “Empire of the Sun”.

I find this dubious in the extreme, but it may be there is another set of “Red Arrows” that I wasn’t previously aware of.

The film was released in 1987. Can anyone throw any light on this claim? Is he mistaken?

Well when I clicked on the Post New Thread your thread had not been posted. So they must have crossed, “opposing pair” like, in cyberinterwebnetland…..:p:p:p:p

Nothing to get hot and bothered over. Browsers often don’t refresh within such a short period of time.

Only Ray Hannah was in the Reds (leader 196..?),Hoof Proudfoot was ex. RAF and the other pilot was Mark Hannah, also ex.Raf.
I remeber from an article in WW that they planned the airfield attack on the Hunter TWU training!Skip bombing plaster bombs into the doorways.
Alan.

IIRC Ray Hanna was leader for the 66-68 season..??

Also IIRC Mark was on the last TWU course to use the Hunter.

He probably meant “the leader of the Red Arrows” flew one of the Mustangs, but I can’t vouch for the other pilots.
