Interesting photo. The tail fin in question is not the one fitted in the first photo. In fact the fin in the first photo does not look at all like it should be attached the the rest of the Spitfire!

Myanmar/Burma
Think you’ll find thatpiccie (or a monochrome one) was in Flypast years back, snapped froma moving car. I think it was shortly after that Spit was found in a river in Oz. Late eighties sometime ?.
The write up confirmes the use of ‘Harvard tail feathers’.
If I can get up in the loft later this week, I’ll have a look for the original article in my hardbound collection (got em all from 82′ !)
Moving car? I don’t think so. 🙂
It is the same tail, and of course is from a T-6 Harvard.
When all but one of the outlying Spitfires and Seafires were recovered to Mingaladon Base at Yangon/Rangoon in 1994, UB425 had its Harvard tail ‘trimmed up’ a bit to look more like a Spitfire empennage. It still had the mocked up front screen also from the Harvard.
As there were two Spitfires marked ‘UB425’ on station as recovered, one was repainted as UB424 but unfortunately this was the right number but on the wrong aircraft.
Spitfire UB425, proper, was replaced at its rocky outcrop location (moving car!) in Mandalay with a Piston Provost.
UB424/’UB425’/PV270 is now in New Zealand under restoration to flight with Brendon Deere.
UB425/’UB424′, formally with Harvard tail group, despite extensive examination in Burma, the USA and HFL, still defies all attempts to find an RAF serial both physically and by paperwork trail.
Photo taken 16 January 1995 – Mingaladon.

To be honest, I didn’t see the other photos on the page. 😮

Flood I think the point being made is that the brown painted item being offered in the auction does not appear to be the same item as shown on the first picture with the aircraft complete. There is no question that neither are Spitfire tail units but the item for sale does not even look like a Harvard one!

Not me…I’m just the messenger 😮
See if HFL will give you a discount for the use of the photo. 😀

Harvard fin/rudder.
Although this one is waiting its turn at HFL for restoration, a new tail unit has already been built for it (at least, according to Pilot, anyway).
