Spit down at Coningsby, looks real bad

As mentioned above, the BBMF Lancaster is confirmed for the RIAT flying display. 

I’d be suprised we see any of BBMF flying in 2024. Just my own opinion..

EDIT, I was wrong !!!!

Doesn’t seem to be anything official that I’ve seen.

A couple of weeks ago I was informed by a reliable source that plans were bring put in place to display the Lancaster at RIAT 24 (19-21 Jul). Reviewing RIAT 24’s attendance list shows the Lancaster confirmed and the single seaters cancelled.

The Coroner has already confirmed the cause of Marks death (which I’m not going to repeat here). It is that and the continuing investigation(s) that mean the single seaters are not likely to be “seen in public” again this year – the source further stated.

What tragic news. luckily not like the old days, no speculation here

BBMF have always grounded their aircraft after incidents.

It is not surprising that the Flight is grounded. We must allow the investigators to do their job.

There will also be a Service Inquiry involving a number of the engineering staff to cover of the “admin” side of things.

Mark, was a “senior” pilot on the Flight and due to take over as the Boss this Autumn. His death has now brought about a management gap, in what is a very specialist part time roll – leading him into a full time job as the Boss.

Not to mention a period of mourning and a funeral to come of course.  

Think the BoB Merlins are computer data logged as well..They will get down to the problem pretty quickly.

Sadly, entirely unexpected. Everything bar the Dak and the Chipmunk have Merlins, and could be affected by whatever seems to have caused this. It seems crass to comment on the timing, but the D-Day commemorations will be that bit thinner and sadder.

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircraft have now been grounded whilst investigation of the Spitfire crash is ongoing.

Oh no! All I can do is echo the views above,  how tragic.

Guys, please don’t post links or images to the crash picture of the BBMF Spitfire incident here out of respect for the family.. Those that want to see it can search for themselves..

Extremely sad news. I feel for the pilot’s family and friends, and the service personnel and volunteers of the BBMF. RIP.

Oh no, hope the pilot and anyone on the ground is ok ,Spitfires can be rebuilt .

Conflicting reports regarding the pilot, fingers crossed for the best.

Looks to be MK356.
