Spit in Norway – early 90's, and Gladiator

Is this 434 firing up sometime in the early 90’s at Gardermoen Norway? Picture taken by my dad. I always wondered about that, I cant remember the markings since I was rather young.

Heres another rather slobby picture of Scandinavian Historic Flight (is it still called that?) P-51 Old Crow, propably in the hands of Anders Seather, same year…I belive 1992 or 1993.

Here’s a very historic picture of Kristian Frederik Schyes Gladiator shortly (about an hour) after crash landing it on the 9th of April 1940 outside Oslo.

MH434

The mag that I described had a couple of pages showing (if I remember right) an A-26 Invader and a Mustang, but here’s the colour scheme I was referring to applied to MH434 (photo originally posted by LAHARVE)…

Pictures of the Spit and Mustang is from 1990 Airshow at Gardemoen, I cant remember who flew the Spit. Only that it was Mark Hanh that took the Hispano 109 up. Got a few pics that I found last week from that airshow, will scan the Positiv pictures to digital at work tomorow.

I do recall seeing, on the front cover of a Flypast from around 1990, MH434 in her high-altitude colours and markings, but wearing Norwegian rudder stripes and the bands around the spinner. Not sure if I still have the mag, but I can remember the cover clear as day.

I took this (and some others, but this is the only one I scanned) at an airshow in the 80’s, think it was at Jarlsberg but not quite sure, it was also visited by a P-40.

Is that Brian Smith, btw?

The latest Spitfire visit to Norway was in 2003 when Rolf Meum brought Mk.XVI TD248 to Torp, Sandefjord for the Dakota Norway Airshow.

BTW: The airshows at Gardermoen through the 90’s were in 1990, 1992 and 1994.

I belive MH434 visited Norway once before 1990 too (Airshow at Klanten etc.. from memory it stayed over here for the winter, because of an engine failure leading to an engine change at Fornebu) , but I guess someone will come up with some accurate info about that.

Now that you mentioned it. I have photographs of PL965 with the norwegian flags and the coloured spinner.

It had the name “Silje” written on one or both sides of the cocpit as well. I might be able to scan these photos later.

I figured as much!! 🙂 During this 92 (or 93?) historic show and the two airshows at Gardermoen in 94 and 95, it was Mark Hanna flying 434. I just wasnt 100% sure about this one. As far as I know then, it’s only 434 thats been to Norway the last 30 or 40 years or something.

DCK

In 1994 PL965 acquired briefly a Norwegian striped spinner and Norwegian national flags on either side of the canopy. ‘Perfectpic’ has the shots.

This would be indicative, but not conclusive, of the usual OFMC summer trip to Norway through the first half of the 1990’s.

I think it’ll have been 1990 or 91 – 434’s paint scheme stayed the same but the roundels and fin flash changed to Belgian colours a little later. Can’t think when, though, without my books in front of me, but most likely 1992.

That is MH434 G-ASJV, as CK-D – MH434 probably holds a record for number of schemes!

The Glad shot’s a great one. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, that’s MH434, still wearing her “Perfect Hero” film colours from around 1990.
