Evening all,… Can anyone out there ID the Spit in the photo, date possibly 1960s vintage, location & bloke etc unknown.
A MkXVI looks like a code ending in B perhaps?? any info gratefully received.
cheers, Chumpy.

this isnt the ex BBMF example, is it?
Nope.
At this time, mid 1960’s, it was ex Montague Motor Museum and prior to that Swandean Garage near Worthing.
It is the former all blue mount of ACM Sir James Robb.

Is it just me or is the cannon barrel fairing missing on the port wing ?
This is an ‘e’ wing.
From this angle the port cannon shroud, with it paint line, is directly in line with the leading edge and its paint line. The prop obscures the end of the shroud.
The .5 Browning aperture, inboard of the cannon, is visible.

In Mark12’s pic, ‘721 has a red decal just beneath the windscreen on the starboard side – which you can just make out on chumpy’s photo – as well as the red markings around the canopy.

Code could be an R.
My first thought was SL721, JM-R (the Spit now currently flying in Canada), but I can’t recall offhand where it would have been in the 1960s.
