Spiteful/Seafang

Hi ,
Does anyone know if any bits of these aircaft survived.I am wondering because so many parts of extinct aircraft seem to turn up for rebuilding nowadays and a Spiteful or Seafang would be pretty awesome.Over to you.

By the time LA564 eventually flies, the purists will be having a apocalyptic fit on it’s numerous identities & rebuild, as per; Sea Fury WG655 it’s hilarious reading the ‘forum’ posts trying to get their heads round it’s various identities, perhaps they should get all the bits together in all the various rebuilds & see how many Furies from one you can get !!
Me i’m just pleased it’s a Sea Fury with a Centaurus back on the circuit, be interesting to spot the difference and sound if the French ones appear in the same place…

Peter,

I am surprised to see that something from a Seafang is still around,
what’s the story about it’s preservation?

Cheers

Cees,

It’s a language thing.

‘Pure Seafang’ but not actually from a Seafang.

Lower portion is LA564.

Upper fin, above the tail planes is from PK665 grafted on, care of British Aerospace.

Hook is from either SX300 or SX336, I would have to check.

Interesting the rudder post is from a high back Mk XIV but look how Supermarine designed the Spiteful/Seafang/22/24 metal rudder using the top horn profile and upper hinge point as ‘carry over’ design/components. 🙂

Hi this is a subject close to my heart as I am producing a resin 1:32 scale
kit of the Spiteful and have studied photos and drawings exhaustively for the
past two years.
The first thing to find would be accurate drawings, I am going to visit the
RAF museums archive at some point as they have 50,000 supermarine drawings and include the correct period, so it would be interesting to prove whether any exist.
I think the chances of finding wings from Pakistani attackers are virtually
nil [ and were they folding or non folding wings?? ]
And did you realise that frame 19 where the tail fits on is the same geometrically as the prototype spitfire!
I think if one were to build one to fly I think you would have to make all
the working ancilleries identical to a late mark spit so that only the external
shape differed to even have a remote chance of it being passes by the CAA.

If anyone had bits, I’d have put my money on Mk.XII 😉 Shame it’ll be on a Seafire, but at least it’ll fly again :).

Interested to hear of any other bits around…and a shot of this canopy?

Two big flat bits with an Attacker bolted between them somewhere I expect!

Isn’t it about time the FAAM went hunting FR.47’s off Malta with one of those minesweepers!

Mark – are you hearing voices in your head?

No, but I am reading total b….x about the ownership and future plans of Seafire 46 LA546, repeat LA546. 🙂

Nothing to do with your cockpit section, Tony.

That tail unit, pure Seafang, is destined for Seafire 46 LA564, repeat LA564.

It would be great, in my mind, to have even a fibreglass replica of either/both somewhere on display, if only to show how far the Spitfire evolved. I was going to ask the very same question!
