Yes new series with Sally B called “Bomber Crew” due to start November 29th 2100. Believe both will be issued on a DVD together sometime thereafter

Tiresome – NEVER
Perhaps when you get your fully armed Isaacs Spitfire in the air, you’ll be Fearsome! 😮
Nah, just notorious! 😉

I was able to watch Spitfire Ace recently too thanks to a very kind loan by the awesome DazDaMan. The series is totally brilliant. It has just the right mix of everything.
Awesome?? Are you sure, Dave?
I would have said “tiresome” 😉

The only thing that disappointed me a little with Spitfire Ace is they showed so little of the interview they did with ‘Bill’ Wells. He told me they did a couple of hours worth of interviews, and they screened just a couple of sentences. I was particularly looking out for him because he’s from my home town, and he was one of the RNZAF’s top aces. A shame. Of course as a doco-maker (u/t)myself I realise this can happen, perhaps it was a technical issue rather than the content as he’s a very interesting bloke. Still a little disappointing as he’s a particular hero of mine.
I hear there is a follow-up series coming in the form of a bomber crew on B17 Sally B. Is this right?
Also as I posted this link yesterday in a thread that quickly went right off track, there’s a similar series being made in Canada right now following a young man going through the Empire Air Training Scheme, including a Lanc too. See here

Steve,
I emailed RDF Media twice last month to ask this question, but recieved no reply to either email.
An email has been sent to Channel four re if there will be a release of ‘Spitfire Ace’ on DVD/video. It seems that it can take up to four weeks for a reply, so don’t hold your breath.
Geoff.

bmused55 – yeah, powerful stuff isn’t it? I was bought a copy of the book for my birthday this year, and am proud to say that both Bob Doe and Nigel Rose have signed it for me when I visited Shoreham a couple of months ago. Bob Doe in particular made a very lasting impression on me, but they are heroes all.
Melv – I’m delighted we’ll see young Dave getting involved in historics, the sheer delight on his face shows how much he’ll appreciate it, and for both Brendan and Pete to be as pleased with his aptitude as they were speaks volumes for his abilities.
On another note, I also caught the end of Spitfire Ace last night (and also got that lump in throat moment as Carolyn handed control over to Pete Brothers), and it got me wondering; is Spitfire Ace due out on dvd or video at all?

I missed the previous thread on this but I wrote a piece for Aeroplane on the filming (other listings magazines are available) and spoke at length with David Mallon.
Apart from the fact I hate him for being half my age and getting ten hours in Carolyn’s Spit, he is a truly nice guy and deserved the break. There was a lot that didn’t come out in the programme, but last time I spoke to David he was off to begin his type training as part of his commercial. He will be flying airliners soon and he will be buying a share in something that will get him back towards an interesting flight line.
Good luck to him, I’d be proud to let him buy me a drink anytime.
You’ll hear about him again I am sure.

I post this, as I think it is something I must do.
Just 5 minutes ago I watched a program called “Spitefire Ace” on Discovery wings. As the title suggests it charted the memories or Spitfire pilots. (Who all deserve to be called Aces, regardless if they live through the war or got shot down on their first sortie)
The end of the show had a WWII veteran take flight in a 2 seater Spitfire and once airborne he took the controls and executed some of the best victory rolls and loops I have seen. With sombre music in the background and that Merlin engine giving of its distinctive sound… I found a tear rolling down my cheek.
God bless the few who defended the many.
Sorry mate, very old news – was shown on C4 at the beginning of the year and has been running on Discovery on and off since then. A superb program though.

Spitfire prog should be worth watching if only for the interesting in-flight camera angles that were dreamed up (and hopefully not edited out)

Thought the Dambusters programme was OK, although I can’t help but think there was some “fiddling” so they could get a happy ending for the present-day RAF Lanc crew!

Looks interesting, hope its not as daft as the channel four documentary on the Dambusters.
Looks to be some stunning air to air sequences in store with ML407
Best regards, steve
