I got the latest copy of Flypast in the post today (Dec 2004) and on page 11 is an advert for a Spitfire flight simulator.
What’s that photo all about – a load of pilots and five sailors running towards some famous Supermarine fighters — Are they Seafires? If not, why the sailors?
I note six exhaust stacks per side and only three prop blades on each plane, but that means nothing as some Mk V Spitfires had the six stack exhausts too and only three blades.
Is this a real wartime shot or a mockup done recently?
It is an interesting photo and an eyecatching advert.

The advert is for the up & coming Just Flight Spitfire add on pack for FS2004.
I don’t know about the sailors  but the photo sure is a mock up.
Shuttleworth’s AR501 is the Spitfire used in the picture.
Cheers

Maybe this is the source of the sailors?

Thought it was HP or is it Daddies? 😀

Many years back I had a Sinclair Spectrum based Spitfire simulator.
Its American developers had but a vague grasp on events of the Second World War and proudly entitled it a Royal Marines Spitfire (As opposed to Supermarine – Americans know that unless it’s a P51 it couldn’t possibly be ‘super’ but they love stuff that’s ‘Royal’):D 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😉 :p
Maybe this is the source of the sailors?
