Spitfire and Hurricane grounded

Fighter operations in Taunton were cancelled today due to a frozen runway and snow! Wing Commander Baz Wallond pictured lower right when interviewed about the threat of unopposed German raids was quoted as saying.

” *** *** *** *** off” its cold and I need a cup of Tea ! :dev2:

It has fibreglass cowlings and wings which will be replaced with alloy and fabric.

Doing a fabric-winged job? Would you like some (new) drawings?

I’ll be in Taunton around New Year, visiting family.

I’d like to join in with a ghostly Spitfire as well, but I only have a ghastly one !

Yikes, I like the zebra or safari look on some aircraft, but not to sure about the Spitfire.

I’m confused again. I wasn’t aware of any airfield worthy of a tower in Norton Fitzwarren (and by the way, yes, Warren Fitz Norton as well, and they are very happy together). Somerset lad meself.

Im may have poor taste but I quite like it, better than the terrible pink some PRU Spits were painted in. 😎

Ummm I might be but Baz entered himself into the recent Horners auction as an ancient aviation collectable, I am afraid there were no bidders!:diablo:

Well, if it’s all the same to you chaps, I’ll just enjoy the occasional bits of summer we’ve been having in these here parts. It was 40c Monday but somewhat wetter and colder today.

Considering how many cider farms are in the area, I’d say he’s been at the Vickerys or Sheppys

Yes it is, and the pictures are deceptive. Its been left out for months in the winds, rain and snow, most of the fabric is US.

The Hurricane BoB FSM is I presume the ex Hooton Park and Gateguards.UK (Grrrr) machine

It looks very smart in the photos.

Thankyou Baz, normally the Spitfire would be tucked up in the shed this time of year but we just had a group of Kids round from a local school. The stands are a precaution although it is possible to stand on the wing tips.
We are suffereing from a storage problem but the shed is being extended and soon both the Spit and Hurricane will be under cover.
We have a full program ahead of us this winter, the Spit will have a complete overhaul and a re paint and the Hurricane will have a cockpit fitted, new canvas and also new paint.
We will be visiting Baz in Cornwall to help him pack up His Spitfire, we will be joining the local Rugby team, Firemen and a pack of horses required to fold back the wings on the tupperware Spit.
Just to clarify I never wear a German uniform but I do fire 40mm cannon shells at anything that moves including the locals, no one has complained yet although there are several burnt out council vehicles litering the lane. We call it the Norton gap! 😀

There was over 200 originally but house prices dropped when Graham moved in and started marching up and down the village in his Waffen SS uniform, frightening the kids. Then he bought a surplus 40mm bofors gun and set about the local wildlife, it is rumoured there are no Rooks, Carrion Crows or cats for a 3km radius of the village.

No, I think Grahams beyond restoring and would probably get bored in a museum, however, he is valuable and I understand the 14th richest person in Norton Fitzwarren.

I thought these old things were really valuable..shouldn`t it be undercover in a museum or is it being restored to fly?
