Spitfire and Meteor steal the show at Glynde in Sussex.

Yesterday saw the staging of a small early evening airshow come concert at Glynde Place near Lewes in Sussex. Organised by the CSMA the theme for the event was VE Day ‘Sixty Years on’ We’ll Meet Again’. Despite the cold blustery conditions a crowd in excess of 8000 gathered for the event.

Carolyn Grace was in superb form as ML407 wheeled overhead as the Ron Goodwin film theme Battle of Britain reverberated around the arena. Top marks must go to Air Atlantique for providing much of their classic fleet in the form of a DC3 (Poppy Drop), Anson, Meteor and Vampire. A special mention must be made for The Meteor display which was simply stunning.

Here’s a few pics from the show

Merlin 70: Up to now the only cost increase to bite hard is the new EU inspired mandatory liability insurance for aircraft operators. That really only seriously affects the heavy “heritage” aircraft who face huge increases in the amount of cover needed, The big CAA charges increase start to be introduced in October 2005 unless all of us make a real effort to voice our opposition to the CAA proposal and enlist the support of MP’s. Consultation should start on 10 June if they keep to the schedule planned.

Thanks Trapper.

It is not cheary news but at least we have this season before things get silly. My letters have already gone to MP’s but I have yet to get any responses. Time to send some reminders.

The show was mainly advertised locally but it was listed in some aviation magazines.

There are some further CSMA events featuring ML407 and Carolyn Grace.

See here.

Looks like a great show. Some very nice pics there.
After returning home on that cloudy afternoon as the sky cleared I had thought to myself it was looking like good weather for a flying evening. Shame it was not advertised more widely.

Thanks Stringbag for confirmation.

And thank you Air Atlantique for giving Dan the opportunity to display G-LOSM in such a spirited way.

PS. Atlantic1, do you know who was flying the Meteor at Glynde.

Septic.

Dan Griffith was in the Meatbox, Andy Webb was in HELV.
Piccies of LOSM departing and taxiing back in (it returning came as a big surprise!) are below…

Cracking stuff.

All that for just 8000 spectators. We’re being told that airshows are too expensive to organise. Perhaps the CSMA should be invited to organise a few more.

I hope they run another next year, it looks well worth attending. Thanks for posting.

I must admit I thought the whole event was excellent value at £19 per head if purchased in advance. The event was sponsored, which must make a hell of a difference for the organisers budget. As a Civil servive organisation they know exactly which strings to pull. 😉

To provide an airshow, concert and fireworks seemed superb value for money, we even had Dame Vera Lynn do a few bars of ‘We’ll meet again’ something she wouldn’t even do a few weeks ago in London for the BBC.

Excellent photos Gary!

Nice to see LOSM and HELV getting a good work out 🙂

The Venom is actually still on check which is why it couldn’t make it.

Thanks DB,

It was a great little event that I stumbled across whilst flicking through AI, I couldn’t believe they managed to book the all the classic jets.

Considering the very strong wind conditions an excellent display was staged, the only aircraft that failed to appear were the DH Venom from Air Atlantique (wouldn’t start),a Spitfire from the BBMF (too windy I guess) and Denny Dobson.
