Spitfire and the Reds

Going thru all my old videos I found this flypast. Spitfire leading the Red Arrows in a flypast.

Probably is/was, when I’m on a decent connection, I’ll have a look.
Can’t recall where I did see Ray lead the Red’s in MH434, may have been Fairford.

I’m sure Ray did a formation flypast with the Red Arrows, with him flying MH434. But the video looks more like one of the BBMF’s PRXIX’s, which would be more in keeping with the anniversary being celebrated.

Regards,

Dan

I’m on a snail connection so haven’t viewed the vid to i.d the Spit, but I’m guessing it was the greatest peacetime Spitfire pilot of them all, Ray Hanna at the controls.
I’m sure I recall him ‘leading’ the Red’s again, albeit in the Spit.

Interesting, must have been foot hard on the gas, never see that before, something to do with the 80th anniversary of the RAF if it was 1998, where exactly did that take place.

It was Biggin Hill in 1998. If you listen closely you can hear the comentator saying it was the 40th aniversary of the BBMF.

Its always interesting to see these sorts of flypasts. The ‘old’ plane is nose down going as fast as it can and the ‘new’ ones have their air brakes down trying to go nice and slow for the old boy. But where would they have been without him?

Maybe he missed his pass and had to fly over with the arrows……
