Hullo all,
A little note for your diaries if you live near Edinburgh or in Central Scotland.
On May the 4th (Sat) and 5th (Sun), at The John Grey Centre, Haddington, there will be a small exhibition about the excavation of Spitfire AR403 which was recovered from near Westruther in The Scottish Borders last July.
Pieces from the aircraft will be on show along with a history of AR403.
The Exhibition will be free (Good news for us Scots), but we will be having a collection to help raise funds to build a memorial to the pilot, Sgt Malcolm Robertson, RNZAF.
Will send on more info as days go along.
Cheers.
Drem.

Very nice to see, being a former resident of not far from Haddington I would have liked to have visited the exhibition. Nice pics Robert. I noticed in the link above someone correctly identified the top item, which is a counterweight as part of the propeller pitch actuation. In Robert’s first image you can see the lugs on the prop hub that they attach to, just in front of each blade root.

Thats no prob.
Hopefully quite a few bits on show.
Will supply details on how to get there soon.
If you still need details re the propellor, let us know.
Not sure if we will have it on show or not purely because of the size and transport.

Will do.
Story of the excavation also appeared in Novembers “Britain at War”.
Whole thing can be read about in there.
