Spitfire at Rockingham motor racing circuit 1st May

OFMC Spitfire MH434 has been booked to display at the Rockingham motor race circuit, near Corby Northants., at their ‘Thunder Sunday’ event on Sunday 1st May.

Now the really interesting bit. The top seats in the main Rockingham grandstand are over 80 feet up. So you effectively look down on the topsides of aircraft at the low level of their displays

Could be fun and a heck of a photo!!

I got some great pics of the 56 squadron Tornado there last year!!

Oh, and there’s American NASCAR-style car racing too!

NASCAR is the most popular form of motor racing in the US. Since Rockingham opened her in the UK, the track has been trying to promote a UK version of NASCAR called ASCAR.

NASCAR/ASCAR races can be quite dramatic, with lots of spins and hefty impacts. However, like American football, trying to persuade Europeans to watch something culturally very alien is proving very difficult.

Not my favourite subject at the moment,as I managed to crash my race car last weekend, causing substantial front end damage. 🙁

Actually NASCAR racing indirectly keeps a number of P-51’s flying.

Big noisy American cars in a constant left hand turn. Not usually a challenge until you consider that American cars don’t like corners.
