Well – put someone in it?

I know it’s old hat, but it’s still humming in my ears!!

I had the same thought, but of course the operator is not obliged to undertake the circuit work at OW, and 5 mins cross country will offer you Duxford, or Henlow, or Cranfield, or Fowlmere….. and so on.

Furthermore, the nature of the ‘course’ may be that ‘Pilot under training’ is not actually handling the aeroplane close to the ground, so the fact that the field is not massive is not a factor.

There is a difference between kosher flight training, and the ‘Spitfire Experience’.

I would have thought OW was plenty long enough, not sure how user freindly it would be however??

70 mins in a Tiger Moth, 40 mins in a Harvard and 40 mins in a Spitfire for £5400. And a PPL.
I would’ve thought operating a training Spitfire out of Old Warden would be a tad marginal…

As I understand it the circa £4000 course is only for already qualified PPLs. It comprises some time in a Tiger Moth, followed by time in a Harvard and finally some stick time in the Spitfire. Apparently it’s all approved by the CAA but I guess doing your whole PPL course on a Spitfire might just need a lottery win.

Howard500, don’t worry about the others! Your spelling may not be great but your sentiment is good and I agree!
