Seeking any info or photos
Any former 316 Polish crew

it looks alot worse than it actualy is, as you can see theres no superchager, and the reduction gear at the front was broken. I did take some new photos at the weeknd of it as it is now but something went wrong with the camera, will take some more soon. All i can say at the moment is the engine has one of the heads off to inspect the internals, see what needs replacing and cleaning, a new superchager has been obtaind, prop hubs going away to be sorted.

The only 316 Sqn member that I have come across is Konrad Stembrowicz, unfortunately he passed away a couple of years ago. I also know of someone with a link to Teofil Szymankiewicz who was killed in a Mustang early in 1945.
I’m not sure if Michal Cwynar is still alive, IIRC he was living in Scotland a few years ago.
W/Cdr Tadeusz Sawaicz in Cananda;
S/Ldr Sporny Kazimierz in the USA;

Ian, neither of the pilots you mentioned was with 316 at the time of the accident.
Michal Cwynar was very much alive (living in Dumfries) when I last spoke to him not long ago. So is Tadeusz Sawicz in Canada. Both were with 315 Sqn at the time.
Kazimierz Sporny died in UK about 60 years ago.
BL246 was the regular mount of Janusz Zurakowski (the Zurakowski) who, sadly, passed aways not so long ago (I believe mosschopps already knew that). The Spitfire was also flown on occasion by Jerzy Szymankiewicz (no relative of Tadeusz), who died a couple of years ago in Warsaw.

Just for reference :-

22 Nov 1942 Spitfire Vb BL246, Sgt Tadeusz Orzechowski, mid-air collision with Beaufighter near Barmston (Yorkshire) during night flying exercise. Orzechowski died as a result of this crash.

Beaufighter was EL394

The aircraft or wot we recoverd is now in South Yorkshire, the merlin is currently been stripped to see what needed to make it a runner again, its good but does need abit of work, well it has been in the ground 60+ years! She must have gone in with a dead engine we think because of the good condition of the merlin. The crash site was in East Yorkshire, sorry cant give anything away as to the precise location at the moment, you now how things are every man and his dog will be there looking to see if they can find any bits. Think we will be going back over the site again this year just to check to make sure we havnt missed anything.

Will put some pics up at the weeknd:)

It maybe possible that the following are still alive :-
