I am trying to locate a Spitfire Elevator for our Y2K Spitfire Project. It does not have to be airworthy it does not even have to be complete. If only 1/2 can be found this will provide enough info to rebuild one. I have tried to find the blueprints but according to Hendon they don’t exist for the original fabric covered ones. We essentially have the spar and nose cone of one we just need samples of the ribs and trimmer tabs to be able to accurately rebuild one. If anybody can help in this endeavor please contact me at haroldmulder@email.msn.com
Thanks for your assistance.

Hi Harold,
Follow this link to the guys at Airframe Assemblies on the Isle of Wight. If they don’t know a thing or two about Spit elevators nobody will!

The RAF Museums Spitfire 1 was recently restored to near original condition by the Medway Aircraft Preservation Society. I’m sure they would be able to help. Their workshops are at
Rochester Airport,
Rochester,
Kent.
They are there Sundays, Wedesdays and some Mondays. If you are nearby on those days call in and look around, I sometimes do and there’s always somebody to guide you round.

This may sound stupid…as most of my posts do….but what about using plans from a flying scale model. Scaled up of course, some of them look pretty realistic you know the Brian Taylor ones?….. yeah I know, just call me “stupid” 🙁
